Carol McMahon's favorite motto comes from fashion icon Coco Chanel — "'A girl should be two things, classy and fabulous.'"That is what McMahon brings to her Derby Street shop — The Boutique — clothing and accessories that are classy, fabulous and appropriately cozy for this time of year.Another fashion mantra McMahon lives by is "simple but chic."A style maven herself, McMahon, is always willing to talk style and share tips and tricks with her guests — in fact, owning a shop like The Boutique, where she can impart her passion for fashion, "is a dream come true," she said.

When it comes to personal attention, "one client at a time is my motto," McMahon explained.From sweaters, to dresses, belts, faux fur vests leggings and boots, the Boutique offers a range of styles for fashionistas.The Boutique opened on Dec. 5, 2010. McMahon said she has enjoyed becoming a part of the community with her husband, James."The response has been very nice…the community, our good neighbors and visitors to Salem have welcomed us very warmly," Carol said.

McMahon also said she's had a great time maintaining the front of the store to "add a warm touch to the block, and loves the community feel in her little stretch of Salem.With a year down and more to come, McMahon said she looks forward to remaining a part of the community.As for her goal when it comes to offerings at The Boutique, she said she wants "to continue to offer comfortable, stylish and chic clothing" and, at the same time, work on "adding to our accessories to offer the most pleasant, one-stop shopping experience."
