Protective Hose Company to host annual barbecue fund-raiser

The Lancaster Fire Department Protective Hose Company will be setting aside its ladders and fire hoses and picking up spatulas instead Sunday, May 5, as the department hosts its annual barbecue fund-raiser. Moore added the scholarship is awarded to a rookie firefighter each year. The Protective Hose Company firefighters will be running the event, which is great chance for residents to meet their local heroes in the community. "We currently have 34 members that will be helping out and everyone's families lend a helping hand to make this a success which just further demonstrates what a family friendly place the fire department really is," remarked Moore. The cost of the dinner is $9 per person.Dine in or take-out is available. Tickets can be purchased the day of the event, although Moore said he does encourage presale purchasing before the event. 

"We annually bring in around 1,500 people so if you want a chicken the best advice I can give is get there early in the event," said Moore. There will also be two big raffles attendees can take part in. The first one is a "Lottery Tree" that is covered with more than $200 in Lottery scratch off tickets."For once, money really does grow on trees," said Moore.The Lottery Tree tickets cost: one for $1, three for $2, or 10 tickets for $5.Moore said the second event held that day, which is quite the crowd pleaser, is the Chinese auction. The auction will feature almost 100 prizes to be given away totaling more than $3,000 in gift certificates,President Betsy Hellman of the ladies auxiliary presented a check to the oil hose company for restoration of the bell tower at the historical station at 900 Highland Ave. baskets, and many other items donated by local businesses and restaurants.The next domestic technical committee meeting this year will take place in Cincinnati in September. The two domestic committee meetings help the ARPM committee prepare for the international conference that will be in fall in Bali, Indonesia.
